In March 2019, on behalf of New Frontiers In Food, Valorial coordinated a partnership mission in USA. The mission first stop in MidWest in Chicago and Milwaukee with our local partner ChicagoLand Cluster and FabWisconsin. A second stop was made on the WestCoast, in San Francisco on the Future Food Tech.
The delegation gathered together 14 companies, members from our 5 clusters Valorial, Clusaga, Food Valley, Vitagora and Wagralim. Within this delegation, 12 companies were part of the New Frontiers In Food Fast Forward cohort: Baïa (ES), Brasserie De Brunehaut (BE), Brasserie du Bout du Monde (FR), Brasserie Ragnar (FR), Dely Waffles (BE) Fortified Food (NL), Freggies (NL), GreenFood50 (NL), Mobeefox (FR), Nizo (NL), Protifarm (NL), and Saint Fernan (FR).
This mission enabled the companies to better understand the USA ecosystem, via networking events co-organized with our cluster partners from USA and a special thank you to Milwaukee 7, Wisconsin Economic Development and Chicagoland Food and Beverage Network for hosting us. It was the occasion to pitch in front of and meet local companies, support organization, local government, and investors, over 100 contacts open to learn more about them! Also, the NFIF cohort was able to validate the market potential of their specific product and service sector threw pre-organized meetings, the visit of Incubator Polsky and Hatchery and benefit of the advice of expert from the Awex, French consulate, the Dutch consulate, the FACC Chicago, Sente.link and Culinaryconnections. We also visited Galactic who shared their experience in why and how to settle in US, as well as LakeFront Brewerie, a US made company. The Future Food Tech event in San Francisco allowed the SMEs to interact on the innovation and start up arena in the presence of a wide variety of investors. New topics as personalized nutrition, cultured meat, alternative protein sources, blockchain technology gained attention during the program and allowed participants to update on latest developments. Those few intense days spent together, with time to spent together on train, planes and diners, has been a great time for participant to share experiences, understanding, expectations regarding USA and more widely regarding their company.
We are just a few weeks after, but we expect NFIF cohort companies to come back to us with good news on potential research and business collaborations!
NFIF thanks all the participants for their engagement in this journey and is looking forward to making further progress.
