November 4-8, 2019
As part of the New Frontiers in Food (NF4) mission to Brazil (November 4th to 8th, 2019), the NF4 delegation travelled to Curitiba, Parana, where they visited with a number of key organizations and players in the regional food sector including those doing valuable work in the area of innovation.
For this portion of their visit, the delegation was hosted by the Paraná State Federation of Industries (FIEP) in their facilities in Curitiba. There, on November 6th, the delegation attended presentations by the Institute for Innovation in Food (FIEP), OCEPAR (the Federation of Agrofood cooperatives), and the Technological Institute for Food. These presentations included details on the work of each organization, along with details regarding regional market trends, and regional capacities within the food sector.
Following these presentations the NF4 delegation travelled to Tecpar, a public company created in 1940 which works in research, technical development and innovation, offering technological solutions to business, including the food industry. During the visit to Tecpar, the delegation was welcomed by Jorge Augusto Callado Afonso (President of Tecpar) and Marcus Julius Zanon (Innovation Manager of Tecpar).
On November 7th, the final day of the NF4 mission to Brazil, the delegation was again hosted at the FIEP facilities where their day included a tour of the FIEP start-up accelerator, an overview of the Brazilian marketplace for European business by ENRICH, and presentations from numerous FIEP collaborating institutions (Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná, Economic Development Agency of Curitiba, Federal University of Paraná, Far South Regional Development Bank (BRDE), Araucaria Foundation).
The final activity for participating European SMEs was a B2B session organized by FIEP. The NF4 consortium presented the project to a group of Brazilian SMEs and industry representatives, followed by a short business pitching presentation from each European SME present. This was followed by a productive B2B networking session to close the day.
This visit to Parana state allowed the NF4 delegation to develop an in-depth understanding of the Brazilian market, including differences and synergies which exist within the country on a state-to-state, regional level. Through the presentations and meetings held in Curitiba, the European SMEs increased their knowledge of the Brazilian market and were able to establish contacts for future business and collaborations in Brazil.
